A dica veio da minha irmã.

Assim como eu ela também está tentado manter vivo o português dos filhos. E surfando por aí, descobriu essa colônia de férias – Concordia Language Villages.

 Portuguese is a Romance language that originated in the Northwestern Iberian Peninsula about a thousand years ago. During the 1400s and 1500s, the language took root worldwide as Portugal established colonies in the Americas and Africa. Portuguese is now the most widely spoken language in South America, is a major lingua franca in Africa, and is an official language of eight countries spanning each of the earth’s inhabited continents. You already use words of Portuguese origin such as tapioca, petunia, piranha, cashew, macaw, and toucan.

Portuguese has one of the richest vowel phonologies of all Romance languages, with seven to nine oral vowels, five nasal vowels, 10 oral diphthongs, and five nasal diphthongs. The Portuguese alphabet consists of 23 letters (26 letters): A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O, P, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y, Z. The letters K, W, and Y may appear in personal names and in words derived from them. – Estão precisando se atualizar com a nova mudança.

Music and Dance Styles Traditional

Traditional

Fado music has two basic styles, Lisbon and Coimbra. The Lisbon style is sung by a single performer, but the Coimbra style is usually performed by a group. The intensely melancholic songs are usually about love, woe, and pain, but Coimbra sometimes contains humor and political undertones.

Contemporary

 An example of a popular Portuguese rock band having a long history is Xutos e Pontapés who’ve been playing for over 25 years and who are well-known throughout Portuguese society. Famous solo singers include Rui Veloso, Pedro Abrunhosa, Jorge Palma and Sérgio Godinho, among others. Portuguese rap performers include Boss AC.

Crafts/Folk Art

Azulejos- Painted Tiles Tiles are everywhere in Portugal. They decorate the walls of churches, monasteries, palaces, everyday homes, park benches and much more. They can portray anything from scenes of history to famous landmarks. Sometimes they are even used as street signs or house numbers.

Festivals

Carnaval Carnaval is a festival season. It occurs immediately before Lent; the main events are usually during February or March. It typically involves a public celebration or parade combining some elements of a circus and public street party. People often dress up or masquerade during the celebrations. Carnaval is mostly associated with Roman Catholics and, to a lesser extent, Eastern Orthodox Christians. The world’s largest carnival celebrations are held in Pernambuco and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Games

Jogo do Sapo (Toad game)

The object of this game is to toss and insert the disc into one or more of the holes, then totaling the score. Each hole is equivalent to a number. The toad has his mouth open and if inserted it has the highest point. The person who scores the most points wins.

Jogo de Argola (Ring toss game)

Four rings are tossed from a distance to loop around a stick. Each stick is labeled with a number from one to five. The stick in the middle has the highest point value. Naturally, the person who tosses the rings best and scores the most points wins the game.

Jogos de Queijos (Cheese Game)

object of this game is to roll the wooden wheels up the ramp and knock down the pins that contain points. Again totaling the points determines the winner

Did you know?

 Capoeira is a Brazilian game and martial art. Participants form a roda (circle) and take turns playing instruments, singing, and sparring in pairs in the center of the circle. The game is marked by fluid acrobatic play, feints, subterfuge, and extensive use of groundwork. Capoeira has three main styles, known as “regional,” “Angola,” and “contemporânea.”

    Oi, Isabella,
    Achei muito bom esse seu post. O que achei interessante foram as razões apresentadas para justificar a aprendizagem do português.
    Tenho a impressão de que, para mim, o mais difícil caso tivesse que viver fora do Brasil seria deixar de escutar minha língua no dia a dia.

    Bem legal esse texto. Eu deveria mandar para os meus amigos americanos.
    Meu marido fala um portugues bem macarronico. Quando a gente se casou (faz tempo, haha) ele tinha um livro com uns cassetes. Depois eu vi aquele curso Rosetta, e comentei que ia comprar pra ele, mas acho que hoje em dia a paciencia dele pra estudar eh beeeeem menos que antes.
    Eu amo a lingua da gente, acho linda. Tem coisas que escreve igual em Portugues e Ingles, mas acho que soa muito mais bonito na nossa lingua, como a palavra chocolate, por exemplo. E olhe que eu sempre fui apaixonada por ingles.

    Meu marido quer aprender Portugues e estamos querendo comprar aquele software do Rosetta Stone, no qual ouvi falar que eh um dos melhores que tem. Mas sao carinhos!!

    Eu mesma tenho que ler mais em Portugues. Depois de 16 anos fora, ja notei ter dificuldade com minha propria lingua e nao quero que isso aconteca… Por isso tb so escrevo no blog em Portugues.

      Oi Lucia,

      eu tb comecei o TQG pra me obrigar a escrever em português. Volta e meia erro mas insisto porque não quero esquecer. Meu filho de 5 anos vai ser alfabetizado em português também. Em francês (lingua paterna) vamos tentar tb…

      eu tentei muito aprender francês e até aprendo um pouco mas com aulas… Nunca tentei o Rosetta mas acho que vc encontra mais barato no EBay. Talvez até na biblioteca pública, de graça!
